Meet the Team Spotlight: Brian Lathrem
Fresh off earning his bachelor’s degree in marketing from San Diego State University— as in the very next day—Brian Lathrem started his new job in the parts department at Hawthorne Caterpillar in Escondido, California. After three months, the recent college grad moved into a marketing role.
Two years in, Brian concluded that sitting at a desk and being on a computer all day was just not the right fit and began looking around on Linkedin.
In May 2024, Brian joined Cutting Edge Supply as an Outside Sales Rep in San Diego, helping to cover customers across San Diego County, Imperial Valley and Yuma, Arizona.
“I really have enjoyed it,” shared Brian. “I like windshield time way more than screen time. It also helped my transition since I already knew about half of my customer base from working in parts at Hawthorne.”
While well-versed in G.E.T, Brian’s first few months included a crash course on other aspects of Cutting Edge’s diverse product line.
“Early-on, there was a bit of a learning curve for me on the steel and crushing side,” said Brian. “It’s been interesting to expand my knowledge on that front. I’ve also appreciated the opportunity to be on-site with customers where you get a first-hand look and learn so much about their operations and processes.”
Mostly, Brian has focused his first year at Cutting Edge on establishing trust with his customers.
“We don’t have office spaces to go sit in at Cutting Edge as they want us to be out with customers, anticipating their needs before they lead to problems,” said Brian. “Cutting Edge’s customer service aspect is really next-level, and it’s important to me that my customers always feel they are taken care of and that we are delivering the best product we can in a timely fashion.”
Having paid the bills in college by working four years at a bowling alley, the San Diego native enjoys spending most of his free time these days outdoors.
“Fishing, surfing or golfing are my favorite pastimes,” said Brian.
