Meet the Team Spotlight: Jerin Sand

Jerin Sand came on board as an Outside Sales Rep at Cutting Edge Supply in July 2024. It was an exciting and interesting adjustment for the Coeur D’Alene, Idaho native as it meant packing up with his wife and two young kids and making the move to Reno, Nevada.

“We both lived in Coeur D’Alene our whole lives so it’s definitely different,” said Jerin. “It’s very dry and I do miss the green of Idaho, but there’s also a ton of diversity – from the high desert to the Sierra Nevada mountains. We like to get out and camp and it’s been a fun adventure.

While there’s been a bit of an acclimation period on the home front, Cutting Edge and its customer base were much more familiar territory given Jerin’s extensive background in crushing and screening. He got his first taste of the aggregate world after high school via his stepdad.

“My stepdad was a production manager at the Spokane Industries foundry, and we started a general contract company that handled painting a protective coating over the specialized steel castings that Joy Global and Komatsu used so that they did not oxidize or rust when they went into the field,” said Jerin.

Meanwhile, Jerin was also working as a cell tower tech and holding down a job at a restaurant. In 2016, when a job opened at Spokane, he was more than ready for a full-time position. During his first three years, Jerin worked on the production floor, gaining hands-on experience with the molding, melting and finishing processes for its steel and high chrome white iron impact castings. He was then promoted to outside sales, covering the Western United States and Northern Hemisphere. It was during this period where he became very familiar with Cutting Edge Supply.

“I was responsible for helping to grow our sales with Cutting Edge so I became very familiar with their product offerings and sales staff,” said Jerin. “I also did many ride-alongs with the outside sales guys to visit customers so that’s also helped with my transition.”

Following a 7-year stint at Spokane, Jerin moved to Modern Machinery as a Product Support Sales Rep in 2023. During his year there, he spent considerable time working with the underground mines in Northern Idaho and supplying wear parts for crushing and screening equipment.

Well-versed and comfortable on the crushing and screening side of the business, Jerin has focused on expanding his G.E.T knowledge during his first year with Cutting Edge.

“There’s so much diversity in the GET side of things so that’s been my biggest learning curve, but the communication and communication channels at Cutting Edge have been incredible,” said Jerin. “The sales staff is a great mix of guys with varying backgrounds and everyone is extremely open to bouncing ideas, sharing knowledge or answering questions. That’s been very beneficial to me.”

Jerin covers all the way from the Oregon border to Bishop, California—North to South—and from Truckee down to Elko.

“It’s a lot of time in my truck, but I’ll take that any day over some of the sketchy plane flights I’ve been on before for work,” said Jerin. “I’ve got an interesting mix of customers — from construction to crushing and agricultural so every day is also a little different.

“One of the things I’ve loved most is the chance to be around some of the larger above-ground equipment. Being up in Northern Idaho, the gold, silver and lead mines are all underground, so it’s been a super cool experience to be around the 793s, 994s, Hitachi 3000s. It’s impressive!”

Away from the job, Jerin’s primary focus these days is his kids.

“I used to be into building hot rods; my dad and I own a ’69 Camaro together but I left it behind when we moved,” said Jerin. “My main hobby now is just the kiddos. I’ve got a 5-year old son who is identical to me in personality, a 3-year daughter who is just like her mom and another baby on the way.”
